A Technical Recruiter is a person who oversees the whole process of recruiting applicants for technical positions. The role of a Technical Recruiter falls under an organization’s Department of Human Resources. They take care of the whole process, including the report, shortlisting of CVs, calling for interviews, holding interviews, and finishing all the onboarding formalities for a hired candidate.

As being a technical recruiter, I serve technical requirements like java developer, Front-end developer, DevOps Engineer, Business Analyst, IT Program manager, ETC.

A technical recruiter also recruits consultants like Data warehouse consultants, ETL Developers, QA, Automation Tester, and many such requirements depending upon clients’ requirements.

A technical recruiter must understand the role and responsibilities of the consultant that he is hiring. For that, he needs to understand the job descriptions.

Technical recruiters try to understand the requirements by chunking it into the parts and find the consultant by making good ‘strings’ on job portals like Dice, monster, Career Builder (CB), Techfetch, Indeed, etc.

As being a US technical recruiter, I use to submit the right consultant after screening his resume and his work experiences.

A recruiter should look for the required skills in the first 2 recent projects that means that the consultant might have worked on the latest version of the required skills.

Eligibility to become a technical recruiter:

Education:

One should have a bachelor’s degree in any stream but good has a computer science background. But if you are not from that stream then you have to learn all technical skills anyhow by utilizing the internet.

Communication skills:

You must have good communication skills to commute with clients, employers, candidates. That must be practiced from time to time to improve it better every time.

Negotiation skills:

If you have all the above skills but don’t know how to negotiate with a consultant regarding the salary or wages then you must learn it. When you do so you gain some potential attention from clients when you serve them on a lower budget.

Work Experience:

If you are a fresher, then you don’t have any experience which is not required in every organization when you have better technical skills and communication skills.

But if you are a 2-3 years experienced recruiters then you must know the technologies like backend, frontend, full-stack, Data warehouse, SAP modules, Testing, Analyst, and their roles and responsibilities.

Gathering the requirements from reporting manager:

The very first thing I do, I look for all the requirements and select the easiest one where I am sure that I can submit a consultant in under 30 minutes. then move to the next one.

Job Posting:

Posting job requirements on job portals like Indeed, Dice, Zip Recruiter, etc. depending on resources you have.

Active search on Job portals:

Use of strings to fetch the matching consultants with the JD (job descriptions). Those who has expertise in Boolean strings are way ahead in the recruiting industry.

Submission:

After screening the consultant, a recruiter submits the profile for further candidature from the client end.

Follow Up:

Any recruiter must follow up their submitted consultant at least twice a week and keep them warm till on boarding.

A career as a technical recruiter:

I find it a very stable career opportunity in the recruitment sector. Being a technical recruiter keeps you updated from the latest technology and this is evergreen sector.

The U.S. hiring and recruitment industry are expected to decline to 119.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic, a 21 percent decrease from the previous year, from a market value of 151.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2019.
